An output of the CTBUH Urban Habitat / Urban Design Committee

For over a century, architects and visionaries have recognized the potential of connecting skyscrapers at height to enrich urban environments. Despite the clear trend towards greater height and urban density, our cities still rely primarily on ground-level connections. As urbanization accelerates, it's imperative to explore how horizontal space can be developed at height.

This Technical Guide aims to document the evolution and current status of skybridges while proposing principles for future development. While skybridges are increasingly prevalent, their quality varies, highlighting the need for thorough analysis and learning from existing projects.

This research marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of skybridges from utopian visions to practical solutions. By providing a framework for understanding and improving skybridges, we aim to enhance urban connectivity and enrich the fabric of our cities.
